The 2023 Florida Building Code, Mechanical, section 307.2.3 requires overflow protection wherever a blocked condensate drain could damage the building. The options: an auxiliary drain pan with its own drain, a separate overflow drain line, or a water-level shutoff device conforming to UL 508 that stops the equipment before overflow. The code even requires auxiliary and overflow drains to discharge somewhere conspicuous. That way a stoppage gets noticed.
